Applications, Advice and AppraisalsProject Overview
We advised the client from the outset, managed the consultant team, and obtained planning permission within the original statutory determination period (with no need to agree to the usual requests from the LPA for time extensions) for the erection of a new building to contain 2 tennis courts following the demolition of the existing building and outdoor tennis court, together with the installation of 2 additional outdoor padel courts, associated works, and landscaping.
The Bourne Club
We reviewed the development proposals, advised on the application validation requirements, and managed the preparation and submission of the application. As part of our work, we also drafted a Planning & Heritage Statement, which, as well as considering all material planning considerations, assessed the significance of the designated heritage asset in the Great Austin Conservation Area. Our statement concluded that the proposal would not harm the significance of the Conservation Area and would preserve its character.
Waverley Planning Officers found that the proposal would be of high quality, responding to the local character and appearance of the area. The Council’s heritage officer concluded that the proposal would be in accordance with the relevant legislation and local policies.
We will now continue to advise on discharging the pe-commencement conditions imposed on the permission to enable it to be implemented.
About the Club
Now in its Centenary year, the Bourne Club provides a wide range of racket sports, fitness facilities, and social activities for its members and the local community including schools, charities, U3A, and other organisations.
As part of this development, the club will replace its aging Sports Hall, which has reached the end of its projected lifespan, with a new upgraded structure. The new building will have greatly improved thermal insulation, acoustic soundproofing, and lighting efficiency, thereby reducing the environmental footprint significantly.
In addition, the club will build two padel courts adjacent to its existing one. Padel is the fastest-growing racket sport in the world and, as the first club in Waverley to provide padel, the Bourne Club has experienced a huge demand. With 3 courts the club will be able to expand its junior coaching and school sessions.
