Project Overview

Bell Cornwell successfully gained planning permission for Claines Development Ltd for a development of 5 dwellings in the Anstey Conservation Area, Alton. The site formed part of a wider site allocation for housing which had already met its agreed housing numbers.

Bell Cornwell successfully argued that the principle of development was nevertheless established by its inclusion in the site allocation, subject to overcoming site constraints. In particular, issues had to be overcome in relation to trees, ecology and ensuring the development protected the character of the Conservation Area.

Following negotiations with the Planning Officer and the Council’s Conservation Officer, a suitable scheme was agreed that ensured the host dwelling was protected and the character of the Conservation Area preserved. Included as part of the proposal were measures to encourage ecological diversity, a commitment to energy efficiency and a design which accords to the principles of Lifetime Homes.
