Applications, Community ConsultationProject Overview
Bell Cornwell has recently helped Exeter-based developer, Grenadier Estates, to secure full planning permission for a new watersports centre in Exmouth.
The centre forms part of wider proposals for the sea-front regeneration of the town and amongst other things, will provide a range of facilities which will help to enhance Exmouth’s emerging reputation as a destination for kite-surfing and other water sports.
The not-for-profit scheme, which was designed by leading architects Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole, is located in Exmouth’s seafront and as well as watersports facilities will provide a number of small shops, a cafe and a restaurant.
The scheme buildings will be set within a high-quality landscape that has been carefully designed to take account of the sensitive shore-front setting and will provide open-air performance space and a range of pedestrian and cycle improvements.
Being located in such a prominent location and on the edge of the Exe Estuary, a European protected site, securing approval of the scheme required Grenadier Estate’s team to take a thoughtful approach to a wide range of issues.
We undertook in-depth consultation with the local community and other stakeholders in order to ensure that the scheme is able to make the best possible contribution to the regeneration of Exmouth and for the benefit of local people and visitors to the town alike.
