Applications, AppealsProject Overview
The Exeter team has recently helped a private client to secure planning permission for a novel type of holiday accommodation on the edge of Morebath, a village in the heart of Mid Devon district. The scheme is comprised of three lodges which are to be are to be located within a garden setting, each with an individual form of design including one that will be built on stilts.
The concept is designed to provide something out of the ordinary; a unique experience which will allow visitors to make the most of the site’s secluded location, offering stunning views and the enjoyment of wildlife. The lodges will provide a rural retreat to the countryside for visitors who are looking to reconnect with nature in a quirky and picturesque setting.
As a result of its high-quality design and the economic benefits it will bring to the local area, the scheme attracted a lot of support including from the Council’s economic development team. Despite this, members at Mid Devon Council initially refused the planning application so Bell Cornwell were asked to pursue the scheme at appeal, during which we secured a successful claim for costs against the Council’s refusal. The appeal work then led to a further scheme for which planning permission was granted by the Council and with little delay.
